Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute offers comprehensive CARF-accredited inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs for adults, adolescents and children, with specialty programs in stroke, spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation. A dedicated 54-bed rehabilitation hospital provides post-acute care for patients requiring medical and intensive rehabilitative therapies covering a full range of orthopedic and neurological conditions. The facility has all-private rooms, three therapy gyms outfitted with the latest technology (e.g., weight-assisted treadmill, robotics for training in arm/hand coordination and walking, and communication-assistance technology), a simulated apartment, and an expansive outdoor space for additional therapeutic activity. Outpatient centers feature interdisciplinary teams working together to help each patient meet their individual rehabilitation goals and achieve the highest possible level of independence.
A Day in YOUR Life as a Resident Physical Therapist
The Resident Physical Therapist will participate in a twelve (12) month program to work with patients in a given specialty area who have impairments, limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. The Physical Therapist role includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and interventions toward achieving the highest functional outcomes for each patient or client.

Responsibilities
- Committed to the completion of the educational goals and objectives of the residency program and to the mission and values of Orlando Health.
- Performs duties outside of clinical time which may include, but are not limited to, sports field coverage, mobility screenings, community support groups, physician rounding, teaching assistance or guest lectures with local physical therapy programs, multidisciplinary clinic days, volunteer community engagement events, and supporting local community partner events.
- Reports to scheduled mentoring time prepared with patient cases to review or live patient mentor sessions scheduled. Resident physical therapist is responsible for initiating need for increased time or support needed.
- Communicates with residency program faculty, mentor, and clinical site supervisor as appropriate.
- Collaborates within and across Orlando Health departments and its partners.
- Complete one or more outcome-oriented projects.
- Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, the physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family, significant other persons, and data sources.
- Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives and treats accordingly.
Required Qualifications
- Education/Training
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved program in physical therapy.
- Licensure/Certification
- Maintains current Physical Therapist license in the State of Florida. Temporary permit acceptable.
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
- Experience
- No prior experience required.
